A Different Embossed Background

Yesterday I made my weekly video on FB (and now on YouTube) of something I taught back in 2010.  I had to dig to find the paper that would work and yes, I've had this paper since then! But it is so cool a technique!

I had to find my white core paper! If you have Die Cuts With a View paper that's it! Or if you have Core'dinations, that generally works, too! But sometimes the cheap stuff like at Wally World is white core. Anyway.  If you emboss the paper then sand it, you get beautiful results! The red paper on my card is a rather cheap as it's very thin.

Here you can see the sanded raised hearts. You do have to be careful not to sand too hard as you can tear the paper.  I die cut the word from black card stock and black foam then adhered the two together using a good craft glue.  I wanted my word to pop and there is just no way to do that using foam pieces.

I have 3 more backgrounds to make into cards plus the one I shared at the end of my video which will post Friday.

You know, this would make a good anniversary card, too!

A Busy Workdesk

Well, Christmas is over and the new year starts Friday.  We're pretty much done with 2020.  So, for all my desker friends at Julia's Stamping Ground... Happy New Year! I hope 2021 is much better, healthier, freer, and happier. May we be able to be with family, friends, and more.

So now to my desk.  I took my picture yesterday late morning and it was busy.  I was trying to come up with an idea for today's video but it will probably be for next week's video as I'll have to make a few samples in various stages so I won't take a long time.  But late afternoon I got my idea after trying some other ideas that just didn't work.

Let's see.... far left is a pile of stamps and dies in their packages. Center is my Stamp Perfect stamp positioner in use. Behind it is an ink pad and the base of my card (I'll be sharing it on Friday), and cling red rubber stamps on their plastic sheet.  Far right is my Platinum 6.   That pile behind the light on the left is a pile of GKW (goodness knows what) that really needs to be cleaned out and put away.

We were so blessed Christmas Day to do a Google Meet with our 3 kids and their families. We haven't seen any in person for over a year. I miss them all so much. Hopefully this next summer we can head north to WY as see 2 of the 3 plus our granddaughter and her family. The other is in CA and that state isn't friendly at all.

So please head over to the Stamping Ground and check out the other desker's links. And I'll be seeing you deskers next year!

Love You

Now that Christmas is over I have been prepping for my January 22 class, "Hearts Everywhere".  One of my cards didn't make the cut for the class as I just didn't like it that much.

There isn't anything wrong with the card but I made a different shaker that is so much cooler! It's actually a take off of one Kim Kesti from Spellbinders made on a video a while back. I used the cool Forever Love Hearts die set from Fun Stampers Journey and a stamp set I got free from Spellbinders called Express Yourself that isn't available anymore (but I love it!). The silver hearts in the shaker are leftovers from one of the cards we'll be making.

I also added some Confetti Sparkle Elements to the shaker.

Again, I like the card but the one we'll be making has more pizzazz! You can see all the cards on my Upcoming Events page.

Red & White Pipecleaners

A week ago Saturday was our monthly stamp group meeting. There was only 10 of use due to either the virus or Christmas being just a few days away. But for the meeting many of us were given a red and white pipe cleaner as our mystery item to make a card with.  I really tried to be different and I have to admit, I didn't see a card using their pipe cleaner quite like mine.

I did a little search on Pinterest for ideas other than using them to make candy canes.  So I came up with this! I guess you can say the J is an upside down cane and the Y is one, too.  Oh well.  I added ribbon and holiday sequins.

The card I was given is adorable! I love gnomes! And yes, it has a candy cane.

Isn't this cute? Nancy also made the pompom and flowers on the gnomes' hats from her pipe cleaner.

I'm hoping I get back to creating soon!  I still have 1 more Valentine card to make for my Jan. 22 class! But I know what it will be, just need some desk time!

Santa Kneels

As a believer and follower of Jesus I don't push the Santa narrative but understand why so many do.  I do have rubber stamps with a Santa but this is my favorite. It's a very old stamp of Santa kneeling at the manger of Baby Jesus that I purchased in the late 1990's. It started out as a wood mounted stamp but I unmounted it and mounted it on red cushion.

I'll start with a card I made back in 2011.

It's a simple card but has a great message.  The sentiment comes from a set I purchased from The Angel Company and still use to this day. The company closed in August of 2011.  It was the first MLM I joined (back in 2002). Still have friends from this great group of Angels.

I made this card in Dec. of 2017.  It was colored with pencils. I keep that sentiment with the stamp in a CD case.

And this is the card I made this week. I still colored with pencils and used a fun paper pack called Gnome for Christmas.

I very carefully applied DecoArt's Snow-Tex to the fur areas to look a bit more fuzzy and snowy.

Have you looked back at cards you made years ago? Has your style changed?

I want to share this bit from the Holy Bible, Luke 2: 8 - 14:
Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night.
And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around then, and they were greatly afraid.
Then the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all the people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find the Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger."
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:
"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth, peace, goodwill toward men!"

God bless you all and remember, Jesus is the Reason for the Season.

Christmas Card Duo #2

Whew, glad I'm done making Christmas cards for this year.... or am I.  I think I'll make a special card for Christmas day, we'll see how my time goes.  Today I'm sharing the other 2 cards from the 4 I made last week using Fun Stampers Journey's Holly Jolly Prints paper pack. I also used more of the little red dots from my Stampendous stash.

I didn't realize until I got going on the Peace card that I wasn't using white card stock. Oh well.

I used a FSJ's border die set to outline the gorgeous print paper.  Gave it a cool look, don't ya think?

The red dotted paper is the other side of the ornament paper. I love how the colors coordinate so wonderfully! The gold glitter star uses a pack of glitter paper I got a couple years ago. It's gonna take me a LONG time to use it up!

Hope you have a wonderful Christmas Eve! We'll be going to church tonight to take communion and to sing carols. What are you going to do?
