Close the Drapes!

Yesterday on my FaceBook Live video (and now on my YouTube channel) I showed how to make a simple drapery fold or pleated skirt fold card. I only gave the basic directions on my video but I finished my 2 cards after and here they are!

I used a paper pack I got by Photo Play. Scrapbook.com used to carry it but apparently not now. I have quite a bit of it left.

The card on the right is just a basic card. Can you tell why the left one is different?

I'll start with some directions. I started with a piece of 6" x 12" card stock and scored at 2", 3", 5", 6", 8", 9", and 11". I then marked with a pencil 1" down on the right side and 1" up on the left side. I cut diagonally from pencil mark to pencil mark. Next I folded on the score lines in accordion fashion.

Here you can see the folded one on top and the unfolded one on the bottom.  You can make 2 cards from this now cut 6" x 12" piece.

I then adhered the folds together. At this point you can actually change the size a little by cutting some off the top or the left edge. If you started with the other piece you can trim some off the right edge. Just play with it a bit.

I made a 5 1/2" square card base for my fold.

One this card I used my pencil and ruler to make an opening. I opened the card and used my craft knife on a cutting mat and cut out an opening.

This is my basic card.  I stamped in the corner and added some trim across the top and some gems.  I didn't trim this folded piece at all but left it the full size.

Here's my cut a way card. I added a piece of acetate to the opening and decorated. I trimmed 1/2" off the top of the fold.

I added a piece of ephemera from the paper pack inside the card and centered it then added another directly over it on the acetate.

Here's a close up of the corner of the closed card.  Isn't this cool!

There are a lot of different ideas for a drapery fold/pleated skirt fold on Pinterest.  Just do a search!
