Owl only have eyes for you...

Boy, how corny is that title!!  I've again been playing with one of the new stamp sets.  This little cutie is in a set called Oh Happy Day, a set of 17 stamps for $15.95.  I think this owl just has the most shy expression.

I used Burnt Umber PH ink and a sponge to create the background.  This is a cheap and easy way to add some color to white cardstock. I also used a Giga Scallop Square punch for the dark brown piece and I decided to offset the square piece for a change of design.

I colored this cutie with my PrismaColor pencils, a blending stump, and OMS (odor mineral spirits).  I love to color with these as you don't have the pencil lines showing and it blends so nicely!

Here's another card using the same 2 stamps with a kinda similar layout.  I definitely like the first card better.  This one was also colored with the pencils.  This card seems to be lacking something to give it some pizazz.  What would you suggest?

StampinHotInArizona, Carol, that cute shy owl is looking for some company in card two. Empty sponged space in card one infers some possible filling of focal white space. Effective. How about using monochromatic ink or a Versa Mark/water mark owl impression on brown cardstock for a subtle owl with a masked over 'half owl' stamped behind the first complete owl conveying a shy back at you response...like children on a playground sizing up playing companion possibilities? Or a hollow upright tree trunk backgrounded by a moon? Golden yellow cardstock edged in repeated layers of tan ink along its four edges under the saying appearing to be a layer of paper but simply ink thus retaining the card's slim thickness? Drawing the edge of the entire card's edges along the edges of your ink pad may enhance the layer look of your card. How about a yellow scalloped 3/4" strip under the tan strip's right side to help enliven the owl's yellow chest? Ribbon of dark choco or yellow could do the same thing along the tan strip's right edge after a simple knot was planced at owl eyesight height. Did I mention wanting to add a focal point of known origin or an orgin left to the viewer's imagination? You asked for ideas. That is what these are. No materials here to match. Have fun checking off which ideas.
Keep Looking Up! You wise woman of the AZ high desert plain.
