Hobo dinner cups

Last Saturday we attended a Hobo Garbage Can dinner at church.  The entire meal was cooked in a brand new and cleaned garbage can over a fire.  We ate off of pie plates and our cups were tin cans.  Well, not one to have something "simple" I decided to decorate the cans.  I used a western theme using the Happy Trails set, the Swirley-Bet set and brown cardstocks.

I used my Crop-a-Dile to make the holes and set the eyelets after laminating the sleeves.  Twine made a good way to tie these on the cans for easy removal.

Everyone got a big kick out of them.

I bet everyone loved this project - how cute and love the leather ties around the can. Great creativity.

What a dinner! What a hobo embellishment! Safe to assume that you knew ahead of time to bring your embellishments or even the entire can-cup sporting western embellishments? Famous Dave's BBQ has nothing over on this garbage can feast when they serve the (once) $60.00 sampler on an upsidedown garbage can lid centerpieced on a standing wire rack to feed four or five curiously hungry people. (Their glasses are plastic!) Now, this is where the hand held Pampered Chef can opener which leaves no rough edge to cut a finger or lip comes into play. Just ordered another as the last one purchased went in a wedding gift! and at Serger Club at Billings Sew and Vac the instructor showed a fabric quilted cup insulator/holder worked on a Serger! The soup or bean can had been opened with a PC can opener leaving no sharp edges behind. Her can was a Valentine fabric wrapped and handled 'canned' Serger made scarf gift. Three Serger scarves per person attending the two hour class! That special plastic lining on a tomato soup can is a clean fresh look inside a handled quilt wrapped gift container. Appears as though papercrafters and quilters have a good thing going with food storage cans. Thank you for sharing your most clever idea and photo of your successful wrap.

Carol, meant to thank you for download paper idea. I've noticed such a thing other places and stopped being interested when the click revealed a dull paper. Now, after seeing that you did print a lively paper I worked much harder to investigate the download. Ah Ha! Pretty robyn birds printed with a look similar to hummingbirds which will be included to a friend feeding hummingbirds in Seattle. Two sets of hummers have called my friend's neighborhood home and have almost settled out who has the newest most modern feeder and who has the second installed modern feeder complete with resting perch/ shelf.
The original feeder was moved to the outside section of roof overhang and is checked out but not consistantly fed from by either pair. While musing, I wonder if a third pair will be permitted by the Alfa male hummer as he and his mate keep a constant check on their feeding airspace!! The second pair had been 'stealing' nectar food drinks for several months as the total fuss of Alfa and his mate!! Now, a second modern feeder makes for some allowable peace in hummingbird airspace. What a book could be written over these obsersvations! I have found a tea towel/ guest towel and a navy blue tea shirt for this friend. She may have to make a hobo bag out of it or use it as a carseat back rest cover as she has decided to enjoy her size for a while after loosing seventy pounds and not really enjoying having to be away from her fav flavors and textures for another year. You may delete this section only because the only important news for The Angel Company readers is the paper download comment. I do so appreciate having the hummingbird stylization paper. Thank you.
Keep Looking UP!

I LOVE these! You were able to decorate them without losing the rustic feel that this kind of supper should have
